Community Groundbreaking
Join us for a community groundbreaking on October 22, 2020 The groundbreaking ceremony will start with a Peace Walk across Downtown Riverside’s Main Street Pedestrian Mall. The Peace Walk will start at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial in front of Riverside City Hall. We will make stops to commemorate the Cesar Chavez Memorial, Dosan Ahn Chang Ho Memorial, Mahatma Gandhi Memorial, and Eliza Tibbets Memorial. GoFundMe – Refurbish Vandalized John Lewis Memorial
Less than a week after the groundbreaking of the Civil Rights Institute of Southern California, the massive mural in tribute to Congressman John Lewis' life was defaced. The mural was the first major project of the institute as it told John Lewis' life story and encouraged viewers to think about justice, voting AND all that Civil Rights leaders fought and continue to fight for.
