About the Digital Archive

CRIISC Preserving our Stories

Preserving our Stories

The Civil Rights Institute works directly with community members to digitally preserve materials that help tell the story of how people in Riverside and San Bernardino Counties have envisioned, secured, and advocated for their individual and collective civil, political, legal, and human rights.

Why do we Archive?

Archives save documents, photos, interviews, and other materials for future generations. Our archive is special because we don’t take physical objects from the community, we work with folks to digitize what they have and share it publicly so that we can better understand and learn from our past.

24 hours a day you can access our digital archive. In the portal you can search for people, places, subjects and learn more about our region’s civil rights histories. We are going to keep adding more as we process the incredible materials community members have shared with us!

About the Archive-Items to Share

Do you have items to share?

If you, or someone you know has photos, documents, or stories that help us tell the story of social justice in Riverside and San Bernardino Counties contact Audrey.Maier@inlandcivilrights.org.

All of our collections have come from the community and we look forward to continuing to grow our collection and our collective knowledge of regional civil rights history.

Support for the Digital Archive

Funding to support CRIISC’s public digital archive was generously provided by the office of former California State Senator Richard Roth. Help us continue to build our archive and ensure the history of our region is preserved for generations.
